Attached below is a report in today's TOI, Pune. There is a three day seminar from tomorrow at the institute to legitimise the process of turning it into a 'global' film school and is being attended by professionals from televison and media.
The project report that has been prepared by some management consultancy firm is being denied to the students. Who are these 33 stakeholders that the news report mentions? Have any of the ex students or students been consulted at all? And how can such a decision be taken without the approval of the society that is supposed to be running the institute? The faculty is apparently in the loop regarding all this but even they wont share it with the students. And the so called global film school is not being planned as some separate entity, but as a part of the current set up itself.
The way all this is being planned seems as if one is talking about some cookery school. The project report talks of courses like '2 months certificate course in Jimmy Jib operation'!.

FTII to be upgraded, turned into global film school

New Delhi: The Film and Television Institute (FTII) in Pune is all set to be turned into a global film school with the government planning to upgrade it at a cost of Rs 52 crore. The upgrading will be done keeping in view the futuristic requirements of the film industry, officials of the Union information and broadcasting ministry said.
As part of the process, a slew of new short-term and longterm courses would be introduced like movie image archiving, music composition, documentary analysis, introduction to cinema for film enthusiasts and business in film and skills for filmmaking. The officials said that to keep up with international standards, a benchmark analysis has been done with the National Film School, Lodz, Poland, National Films and Television Institute, United Kingdom, University of South California School of Cinema and Tich school, New York.
After the conceptualisation, talks have also been held with all stakeholders in the film industry as well as the outside. In total, 33 stakeholders were consulted and a detailed project report prepared which has been submitted to the office of the information and broadcasting minister. The stakeholders also demanded a research and innovation wing, infrastructure deployment and manpower deployment. In fact, the film industry has expressed keenness to have a partnership with the FTII. PTI

Should it be difficult to get the study conducted by Hewitt?....I think anyone (any citizen of India) can file an application under The Right to Information Act and get their hands on the study and as well as the Terms of Reference (TOR) by which the study was commissioned by the Ministry. We had previously filed applications under RTI at the Institute ad got details about the Staff and Infrastructure...This should also be possible.
