GraFTII Adda Event 2

ABOUT THE EVENT

GraFTII Adda inaugurated last month as a platform to showcase the work of GraFTII members through film discussions, script analysis, theatre or dance performances, music or poetry reading sessions, painting, photography and other artwork exhibitions.

We screened the National Award winning film ANTARDWAND made by one of our cinematographers Sushil Rajpal as a labour of love. The discussion that followed the screening was as interesting as the film and is transcribed on the GraFTII Forums at http://www.graftii.com/forums/Topic6-5-1.aspx

The last event was attended not only by the alumni from the Film & Television Institute of India, Pune, but by students from other institutes, film makers, writers, and film buffs. We hope to increase the numbers of Adda addicts every month.

Our second event is a viewing and discussion of the film MOHANDAS.

The director/cinematographer Mazhar Kamran has been Director of Photography of the following successful Hindi films: SATYA, JHANKAR BEATS and MASTI. Other key crewmembers from FTII are editor Suresh Pai and sound designer Mohandas V P.

Venue: Foundation Hall, Whistling Woods, Film City, Goregaon (East), Mumbai.
Date: Friday, November 27, 2009
Time: 4 pm to 7 pm.

The duration of the film is 117 minutes. This will be followed by a discussion on the film with the filmmaker and his crew for 30 minutes. Those who want to continue the discussion will reconvene informally at the picturesque Whistling Woods Cafetaria, open until 9 pm.

The contributions towards this event will be Rs.100/- for a general audience, Rs.75/- for GraFTII members and Rs.50/- for students with bona-fide ID cards. These contributions go towards paying the projectionist and for tea/coffee.

Since Whistling Woods has been kind enough to offer us the venue, the event will be open to Whistling Woods students for free.

ABOUT THE FILM

Born in a poor family, young Mohandas lands an important job at the ‘Oriental Coal Mines’. However, his success story is brutally disrupted when somebody steals his identity and takes his place in his name. A local journalist tapes the story, which reaches Meghna, an Indian television star newsreader in Delhi.

A Kafkaesque tale of identity theft that becomes a searing indictment of bureaucratic corruption and conspiracy.

MOHANDAS has been acclaimed and shown at various international film festivals in Osian's (New Delhi), International Forum of New Cinema (Kolkata), South Asian International Film Festival (New York), The Fribourg International Film Festival (Switzerland), the Innsbruck International Film Festival (Austria) and the 52nd San Francisco International Film Festival 2009 (USA).
