Drishyam Films Seeks Stories

Post by Paramvir Singh »

Drishyam Films’ launches Quest for Stories to attract fresh content from the heartland of India

Do you have an idea that is bold, original and will change the way the world looks at movies…and each other? Then Drishyam Films wants to hear from you! Kicking off this month is our pan- India Quest for Stories which is open to all aspiring Indian film writers above 18. The competition begins on March 20 and will continue till April 30, which is the last date for submissions.

All you have to do is fill the entry form and then submit the 5 page long synopsis of the story. The synopsis cannot be longer than 5 pages and can only be submitted in either Hindi or English. We are open to all stories and all genres, especially from young upcoming writers from smaller towns who do not have a platform for their voices. The concepts have to be fresh and original, and we plan to develop them in-house with the help of experienced mentors.

The results will be announced within two months, and Drishyam Films will option the rights of the winning story to develop it into a feature film project. A dedicated fund has been set aside for developing up to five final stories into full screenplays. The winner will get a fee (up to 5 lakhs) for the rights of the story and a credit for the film, if and when it goes into production.

You can read FAQs about the competition here. The stories can be emailed along with the signed entry form and undertaking (downloadable here) to questforstories@drishyamfilms.com. Please note that only .doc, .docx and .pdf files will be accepted.

The Drishyam-Sundance Screenwriters Lab to be discontinued from this year

Having strived to find diverse and original voices from the country, Quest for Stories is an attempt to continue building narratives that are local in flavour but global in scope. Towards this end, we had established the Drishyam–Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab in 2015. After two successful editions, which mentored many significant scripts such as Nandita Das’ Manto and Atanu Mukerjee’s Rukh, the collaboration will be discontinued from this year. Both Drishyam Films’ and Sundance Institute, however, remain committed to supporting emerging filmmakers through their own individual intiatives. Aspiring writers can also find further information and updates regarding the Sundance Screenwriters Lab on the Sundance Institute’s website.
