Yes Mandar, its indeed a great loss. Its extremely ironical that just last week I was discussing about Mr.Sridhar to Amala and how she wanted to work in Chennai. Even more ironical was the the news I heard from friends at his house today. Just last week, it seems he hinted retirement after completing the post of Carnatic Concert which we shot for theaterical release.

At work, he is boisterously voiceferous about his methods and a dedicated professional. ( He worked the whole day yesterday and went to A.R.Rehman's studio yesterday evening. Worked till 5.30 am today morning, came home and was about to get back to the studio by 9.00 am again. This, I heard was a normal schedule that he does.) He was an inspiration for all of us though we had little or nothing to do with his department during the shoot. His candor appreciation of the artist sometimes acted as a summation of all our feelings at the spot. He had the best of right sounding words with him. He reveled with great joy when he has recorded what he wanted. He celebrated his space and believe me, it was infectious. It is also my regret that a lot of our generation would miss learning from a wonderful person like Mr.Sridhar.

The procession is tommorrow at 10 am and the cremation is at 11 am. May his soul rest in peace. We will miss him.

Another instance which comes to my mind is how he solved synching 7 RED cameras that we used to shoot the concert. Though RED cameras have 'Jam Synch' option to synch with other cameras, it had to be initiated everytime we switch of the camera, which means every time we change the battery or the flash drive. It was becoming problematic. Mr.Sridhar devised a very simple and ingenious method. He got a flash bulb placed a little away from the artist and just before the action started there will be flash from the bulb which will be registered in all the cameras. Then synching became cakewalk. We can synch even hundred cameras with this method. Given his boundless enthusiasm and energy, I think he could have only joked about his retirement for we would have immensely benefitted by his continous engagement with films ...
