Cameraman's guide to shoot jargons

Post by aditishrm »

This is what they say and this is what they mean...

Then we take an OS-OS
(I have grave inability to come up with any further creative shot taking so I am going to go with the safest.)

Let’s frame a dynamic shot
(Give me a frame I didn’t already think of)

Isn’t that patch looking a little dark?
(OMG!! I spent so much money on my model, her make up and all these lights. I am even paying for the generator. You’re going to make me rot in hell…)

I want the film look.
(Basically, neither do I have the ability nor the money to shoot on film. But hey, who says you can’t try??)

Wow!! How do those guys do it?
(Why don’t our good-for-nothing DPs give these results? Can someone tell me how much Jason charges for a shift?)

Let’s try a variation.
(I don’t know what I am doing.)

I like what you’re doing but our client/producer may not approve it.
(I hate it.)

The shoot is going to be hectic.
(You might die or have a neurological breakdown or even a heart stroke. In whichever case, don’t say I didn’t warn you.)

It’s your call.
(I don’t know what you are talking about.)

We’ll try your version as well….
(….and obviously, end up using mine.)

Let’s make it look awesome, yaar!!
(Asshole, don’t screw up my film)

It’s a running break.
(You run, we brake.)

I think this is not what we decided.
(Who asked you for suggestions?)

It's a relatively low budget shoot. I want you to support me in this.
(I am going to pay you half your price, make you work like an ass and give you one meal in a day.)
