Belkin announces iPod-based recording studio

Belkin announced Belkin TuneStudio, a new four-channel audio mixer designed for the fifth generation iPod with video that allows users to plug in up to four different instruments or audio sources and record the audio onto an iPod for instant playback.

Artists can attach instruments and microphones to TuneStudio and record directly onto an iPod; the device also can be used by podcasters as a recording studio.

TuneStudio also acts as an external USB sound card, allowing users to input audio from a Mac or PC and output to a Mac or PC from any of TuneStudio’s connector inputs. The device records in 16-bit, 44kHz quality sound, featuring 3-band EQ, pan, and level controls on each channel. Phantom power-enabled XLR inputs provide up to 60 dB of microphone gain, while a stereo compressor with makeup gain enhances audio dynamics and keeps audio levels within recording limits of the iPod.

TuneStudio will ship with a price of $179.99 in North America this summer, with launches in Asia, Europe, and Australia to follow.
