Bring on the Dynamics

Post by Nikhil Mulay »

Check this out guys...
http://www.dynamicrange.de/

Atleast someone is doing something about this.... For people not cued in to the loudness wars, heres the dope....
for the past couple of decades, since the cd was released, the average volume recorded on the cd has been going up. Mixing and mastering engineers seem to want zero headroom these days with their cds sounding as loud as possible. To achieve this, they use compression and limiting to squash the dynamic range of the recording to achieve higer average volume levels.... this just removes the natural dynamics of the material so much, its a headache inducing nightmare to listen to these albums... for the ultimate example, listen to Death Magnetic by Metallica...
