Hi Param,
I had to come back with new identity as I either forgot the user name or the password. I feel that we need to have new categories. One on Post Produciton and another on Music. Post Produciton - 'cos now its has become a melange of digital applications which has made the boundaries thin between various departments like cinematography, editing, sound, VFX, animation etc. Let me spare why there should be seperate thread for Music as the reasons are very obvious. Thanks a lot. Keep up the great work.
Arvind.

thanks for the feedback, Arac=vindan. I had mailed you your old username/password... didnt you get ite?

I always wanted to keep DI under Cinematography/Software, but maybe we need a speacial thread on DI.

The way I was looking at categories:

Cinematography -> Software/Hardware : for DI related to Cinematography
Editing -> Software/Hardware : For DI related to Editing
Audiography -> Software/Hardware : for post related to Audiography.

And for Music we didnt have a thread because, well, It isnt a curriculum at the institute, but if you think we need it, we can have it.

Hi Param,

Thanks for sending me the details. I will try to log in with that user name also.

I still think we should have a category on MUSIC. More so, because it is not a curriculum in our Institute. After a screening at the Institute, we had always had a healthy amount of discussion about the Editing, Cinematography or Direction, but very less about the back gound score and the music. I feel it is extremely important for every film maker to not only listen to good music but also have a nuance of knowing what music does to visual and story telling. I think there is a slight differnece between listening to good music, being a music encyclopedia to figure out the scales and pitch in which you want to tell your story.

In all my three years at the Institute the only project from my batch which thrilled me with the backgound music was Monisha's first year DV project. She had created the score with just rubber bands stretched across a match box to portray the tension. I heard Godly had done a damn neat job in his diploma film. Last week I watched the diploma films by L.V.Prasada Film Academy. I was surprised by the availability of Musical Knowledge to these guys. Forget that some of their score is loud, cliched and commercial, but from a student level,I think it is a great exercise for them to overlay the music and sound they had created on their visual.

I hope to find similar voices which will high light the paucity of music to our ears not only in the diploma films but also in general discussion on films in this forum.

I understand your rationale about the category for post production. Probably I was lazy and wanted everything in one platter

Thanks.

Cheers,
Arvind.
