An Objective Comparison of Digital Data from Vision2 S16mm
Color Negative Films and the Sony FDW900 HD Electronic
Camera for Television Acquisition

Using a number of established measurement techniques described by Morton, et. al. in “Assessing The Quality Of Motion Picture Systems From Scene-to-Digital Data” (SMPTE Journal, 111: 85-96,  Feb/Mar. 2002), Vision2 Color Negative Films have recently been compared to Sony’s FDW900 24P HDTV camera for overall quality of generated digital data in the HD format.  Results show that when digitized with a scanner that does not include electronic sharpening, Super 16mm film can provide superior digital data compared to 24P cameras that are not using digital peaking.
