Mumbai Film Festival programme is divided into five sections: International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors, World Cinema, Indian Showcase, Mumbai Dimensions and Retrospectives.
International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors is for the best of debut feature films of directors from around the world produced within one calendar year before the festival dates. This section aims at discovering and honoring new talents in the field of direction and providing them networking possibilities.
World Cinema focuses on screening the best films from all over the world produced within one calendar year before the festival dates. This section is meant to be a Festival of Festival films, the award winning and critically acclaimed films screened in other international film festivals and commercially successful, technically superior films. This section is an indicator of the latest trends in film making around the globe.
Indian Showcase, as the name indicates, presents a selection of Indian cinema made in one calendar year before the festival dates. This section is meant to be a show window for the best Indian films targeting the foreign delegates, Festival directors, sales agents and co-producers. The Festival plans to promote this section in a big way and help the film makers network with target group.
Mumbai Dimensions is to tease, target and provide a forum to the young creative minds in the city of Mumbai to come up with the best film on any aspect of this metropolis in any format of their choice. Only students and young media professionals under 25 years of age can submit films for this competition section.
The Retrospective section presents the treasures from the past. It is nostalgia for the veterans to revisit these films and a process of learning and sheer pleasure of watching these masterpieces for the youngsters.
The Mumbai Film Festival Programme aims to present the best of the crop in all its sections.
MAMI PROFILE
Mumbai – the financial capital of India is also the most important centre of the Indian Film Industry. The city plays such a major role in production and dissemination of Indian films and television programmes that it is widely known by its acronym ‘BOLLYWOOD’.
In 1997, a group of film industry stalwarts headed by late Hrishikesh Mukherjee founded the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image as a not for profit Trust. The main intention was to organize an annual International Film Festival of which the film industry and the country can be proud of.
MAMI aims to foster a climate of good cinema. Appreciation of good cinema, stripped off all the limiting labels of art and commercial, can only come about through exposure to the best of films the world has to offer. The festival is the first step in that direction.
How to attend the festival
You need to register as a delegate in order to watch festival films and participate in other events such as master-classes, workshops and open forum organized as part of the 11th Mumbai Film Festival (Oct. 29 – Nov. 5, 2009).
Your delegate card gives you access to the Festival screening at all the festival venues including Fun Republic at Andheri West (4 screens), Metro Big Cinemas at South Mumbai (2 screens) and Big Cinemas R City Mall at Ghatkopar (2 screens) for all shows from October 30th to November 5th, 2009 (except opening, closing ceremonies and other special events organized during the festival).
All screens will have 5 shows per day. Admission for all shows is on first-come-first-served basis.
Registered delegates will be provided a copy of Official Festival catalogue and daily festival bulletins.
Any adult (18 years or above) can apply to become a festival delegate.

Once delegate application is approved, bring the print out of the online receipt, along with a photo identity proof (passport, PAN card, driving license, college identity card, company Identity card, and association membership card).
Student delegates must bring their original college/university/institute identity card along with a photocopy of it.
Film Society members must bring their society membership card and submit a photocopy of it in order to receive their delegate card.
Film industry members must produce their industry association or federation membership cards and submit a photocopy with our registration desk.
Delegate card will be issued on payment of administration fee as per the following details:
For General Delegates: Rs. 1,000/
For Student: Rs. 500/-
For Film Society/Film Industry members: Rs. 600/-
