Given the phenomenal success of the first year of the Indian Film Festival of Ireland that was very well received by the public as well as by the national and international press, I have the pleasure to inform you that the Indian Film Festival of Ireland 2011 is finally on!
Since the first seeds had been planted I have seen this festival having two entwined purposes: to make Indian cinema more mainstream, introducing people to the global appeal and popularity of Indian cinema and to help craft an environment for Bollywood to invest in Ireland. Indian Film Festival of Ireland is another beginning to relate Indian Entertainments to the Irish Audience.
The dates set for this year’s edition are 10th-15th May 2011 and the screening programme envisages 25 films divided into 5 strands:
- Director in focus (opening and closing film)
- Indian film Star in retrospective
- Indian diasporas film maker
- A few local Indian-Irish film showcases to the festival audience
- Bollywood Education Programme for secondary schools and colleges.
To celebrate the Indian Film Festival of Ireland 2011, a new breed of directors, film makers, actors, writers and actresses have been invited to represent the new wave of Indian Cinema, the Indian Film Industry.
The Indian Film Festival of Ireland 2011 will also host, in conjunction with FAS Screen Training Ireland, two seminars and a master class and will carry along its “compulsory” social responsibility (CSR) programme towards the educational charitable institutions in India. Last year a charity ball raised money for an educational hostel.
In 2011 the Indian Film Festival of Ireland will be touring also in Northern Ireland, in Belfast and in the western city of Limerick with simultaneous screenings.
